Endorsements…

Thank you to everyone who has not only read Hope in the Darkness, but have also sent me such encouraging and beautiful endorsements!

“After reading Hope in the Darkness, my passions have been stirred to boldly reach out to the lost.  Sara dives deeply into scripture to discuss hard truths about sin, it’s effect on our world, and the glorious hope we have in Christ.  As healthcare providers, it is easy to get bogged down in the busyness of our jobs and simply meet our patient’s physical needs without ever addressing their souls.  In our culture, it is also easy to shy away from discussing things of God due to the fear of offending.  Sara’s words helped to remove my blinders and served to remind me that what all of our patients truly need is Jesus.  If I fail to offer them the one thing they truly need, it’s like giving a Band-Aid to a hemorrhaging patient.”     - Mallory Barakat, FNP-C

“Thank you for sending me your manuscript.  You have done an incredible job wrestling with this question that many Christian health care providers are asking.  What does it look like to live out my faith in my job?  You started the answer to this question in scripture and stayed true to that throughout your book.  It was these great pieces of scripture that you pulled together that I found most encouraging.  Your scriptural analysis of the root causes of illness was fascinating.  Your charge to boldness in declaring the gospel was convicting.

There is something sacred about what we are doing as healthcare professionals.  As you discuss in chapter 5, God is a healer and restorer.  As healthcare providers we are taking on that responsibility in our community.  In the same way that God uses marriage as something sacred to reflect our relationship with Him, our roll as healthcare professionals to bring about healing can reflect God’s identity as the great Healer.  We have a unique and privileged opportunity to serve people at some of their weakest and darkest times.  I believe that people can experience a piece of the kingdom of God here on earth through their physical illness and healing.  To me the challenge is how we walk people through that.  Each patient is unique and in a different place spiritually.  In my mind there are two extremes that I want to avoid.  I don’t want people to walk away saying, “Wow, that was a really nice person; I wonder why?”  Nor do I want them to walk away saying, “what a warmongering, fundamentalist evangelical trying to push their religious beliefs on me!”  In your book, I think you have done a good job of demonstrating that God cares about our illnesses and our healing and he equips us as healthcare providers with the heart that we need to bring healing to our patient’s bodies and souls.

Thank you again for allowing me to be a part of this project.  You have my full endorsement! - Phillip Scott, MD - Pediatrician

“In Hope in the Darkness, Sara Hill has explored Scripture to the fullest to show us sin and its consequences, and the hope we have in Jesus Christ, because He overcame sin. As a healthcare professional, this book was important for me to read— to gain a caring perspective about patients, who are sick as result of their own sin or of the sin of the world. Her real life stories made me weep. Hope in the Darkness is an excellent Scripture reference for not only healthcare professionals, but Believers in all walks of life. I highly recommend it!”  - Nancy H. Tucker, DPh, clinical pharmacist and former missionary to SE Asia.

“If you know someone in the medical field, I really encourage you to get this book! The author is one of my coworkers who I have served alongside for 7 years. She is a beautiful soul that wants to see lives changed by seeing our profession as more than a job, but a mission field. I have read this book and it is very good, it has challenged me to see nursing as more than a job! This would make a perfect stocking stuffer or gift for the medical professional in your life! I promise you won’t regret it! I honestly feel that the principals relate to any career and that anyone could benefit from this book!” -Alexis Morris, RN, BSN
